The research which resulted in publication of Seiler Laboratory Technical Report SRL 69-0009, 'A Computer Optimization Study of a 3-Dimensional Engagement Between a Surface-to-Air Missile and Tactical Aircraft,' July 1969, was originally intended to demonstrate the applicability of modern mathematical optimization techniques to real Air Force control problems. That report includes a computer program for optimizing the trajectory to be flown by an aircraft in evading a SAM so as to maximize the miss distance between them. Subsequent attempts to apply the engagement optimization program, using other aircraft models, have identified errors and operating deficiencies in the program as it is presented in the original report. This report contains corrections and changes which improve and accelerate the optimization. (Author).
